Devin is originally from Charleston, SC. During college, he was able to study abroad in West Africa, Cuba, Brazil, and Mexico. These experiences changed his life - learning languages and culture. Learning how to dance (a little!) and tasting lots of beans. During this time, Katrina devastated New Orleans. Watching the news from abroad, Devin became interested in coming one day to volunteer. In November 2006, Devin was able to visit New Orleans to volunteer for a week with a few friends. After a few days in the Crescent City, Devin realized he loved it. He kept returning each time he had a break from school. Upon his graduation from college, he moved to New Orleans. He became a school teacher (Middle School Social Studies for a decade) and eventually met his wife and became a stay-at-home dad. His love of beans and costuming led to the creation fo the Krewe of Red Beans, which he has guided from rag-tag neighborhood walking parade to community organization.
